Alissa Weaver, M.D., Ph.D., is Cornelius Vanderbilt Chair, professor of cell and developmental biology, and professor of pathology, microbiology and immunology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The Weaver laboratory studies how cancer cells acquire the invasive and motile phenotype necessary for metastasis. A major focus of Weaver’s current research is how the secretion of small extracellular vesicles called exosomes from cells facilitates tumor growth and metastasis.
