New Leadership Brings Fresh Insights to Vision Care

David K. Wallace, M.D., joined Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2023 as chair of the Department of Ophthalmology.

Speaking to Discoveries in Medicine at Vanderbilt, Wallace describes his interests in clinical care and research , a personalized approach for every patient, and the education of ophthalmology's next generation.

"In our consumer-driven society, patients expect to get their health care differently," Wallace says.

The need to leverage bioinformatics for deeper knowledge, along with research targeted to the needs of patients facing socioeconomic barriers to high-level vision care, are additional priorities.
